Based out of Nashville, TN, Oh Grandpa formed in 2012 after drummer-turned-pianist Michael Aldrich enlisted his best friend and drumline companion, Jared Thompson, to help polish the rhythm-driven blues/funk riffs that he had compiled over the years.
Choral and theory mastermind and longtime best friend, Paul Berger joined up next after his first wiff of the syncopated stew they were cooking up. At first on guitar, Berger ultimately settled his toes on the bass guitar, adding his soulful harmonies and old school flavor.
Last to board the Grandpa train was Kevin Douds. Douds sprinkled in his colorful - sometimes angelic, sometimes devilish - guitar flavor to the grandpa dish after a fortuitous encounter as an impassioned audience member.
After years of seasoning their sound and style - what sometimes felt like wrestling a thunderstorm into a mason jar - Oh Grandpa is two EP's deep (the Dagnabbit EP and Gadzooks EP) with plans of releasing their first full length, Ghost Notes, independently later this year.
With influences ranging from Punch Brothers to Led Zeppelin, these eccentric souls transform into madmen on the stage, with an emphasis on groove, progressive song structure and compelling, harmony-driven lyrics.
